New Petal Baby Blanket and First Bear Crochet Pattern

Perfect for that new baby. Pattern includes detailed instructions for blanket (approx. 35 x 40") and a baby's first bear. Lots of pictures and tips to help you finish your blanket and bear. Bear has stitched eyes and blanket is soft and washable, perfect for lots of hugs. 


Sample was made with Caron Simply Soft Baby Yarn (lovely by the way) in Tiny Sprite, My Princess, Baby Pink and My Sunshine. You will need 3 skeins of Tiny Sprite and 2 skeins of each of the other colors to finish both the blanket and bear. Uses a size F (3.75 mm) and size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook. 
Skill level = advanced beginner/intermediate. Bear is crocheted in the round. 
Since a different color is used for each individual row in the blanket there are a lot of ends to weave in, but the ending results are worth the extra work.

Sometimes You Have To Set It Aside

For several weeks now I have been working on a knitting pattern (not my first attempt at writing up a knitting pattern) and as much as I love to knit, I'm frustrated. I have definitely done more un-knitting then knitting so it's time to put it aside (for another day) and get back to crocheting. 

I picked up and got back to work on a sweet baby blanket that has been patiently waiting for me in the basket next to my chair. It's almost ready for the border. I love the soft sweet colors and can't wait to share the pattern with you. I might add a small softie to go with it. Just not sure what the little softie will be yet. I'll keep you posted.

This fun fellow works up quickly with Super Bulky Yarn, Sample made with Bernat Baby Blanket yarn and size M (9 mm) and I (5.5 mm) crochet hooks. You will also need a small amount of worsted weight yarn for eye circle, mouth and tooth. Finished blanket is approx. 36 x 30", but can be adjusted.

This week, I got a new camera. I definitely need some practice with it, but hopefully you'll see some results soon. This winter has definitely made me want to work on my afghans so here's what's in the making. Not much yet, but in the works.

Something New, Something Old, Something Free

This week I've been enjoying browsing through my collection of vintage crochet and knitting books and magazines. I also spent quite a bit (probably too much) looking on line and was thrilled to find some new patterns to my collection. There were also a lot of patterns out there on line that are not actually vintage, but are called that. Even came across a few that shouldn't be offered, but that's another story.

It's a wonderful site filled with restored vintage patterns that you can instantly download. The also offer the completely restored leaflets at extremely reasonable prices. All of these patterns are in the public domain and can be shared. During my searches I've come across numerous sellers who offer these patterns for sale, so you definitely want to check before buying. Here are just a few of the patterns they have to share. It can be a little tricky working with vintage patterns, getting gauge isn't always easy, but trying something new for free always makes it a little more fun.
